Thinking ahead...

Jenn at Frugal Upstate had a great post about thinking ahead to winter, and it got me to do just that.

About the only thing I can add to what Jenn said is to remember that yard sales and thrift stores are a great place to pick up your winter supplies. People don't think ahead, so I often see window plastic, weatherstripping and draft dodgers for just pennies.

Something new I am going to try this winter is to make thermal curtains using old, ugly ones from the thrift store or yard sales as a liner. For some of the windows (the bedrooms where a darker window might not be a bad thing) I want to make window quilts/shades. I have been planning to do this for years, but never thought of it until winter. Now i have the summer to look for quilts to modify. Check out another good site on how to make window quilts.

(I wrote this post a while ago, but never got around to polishing it and posting it. I am sick, so that isn't going to happen. Enjoy anyway!)
